Myths Exposed
Slow Braces may cause Damage...
A recent article just released information that will turn the orthodontic community upside down. Dentists have been telling patients "fast braces" are harmful to the roots of the teeth, but the opposite has been found. The statistics show that long treatment times cause an increased risk of root resorption (sometimes called root blunting, or shortening). In extreme cases a patient's roots may completely dissolve and lead to the loss of the affected teeth.
A genetic tendency to this problem may contribute to the higher risk. The net result of this study is patients may be choosing rapid orthodontics in the future for convenience, cost savings and lower risk of complications.
